One sunny day at the neighborhood pool, my sister and I were packing up to leave after a few hours of pool time. The kids were getting restless, and getting on our nerves, so Cindy said something to Camden about helping clean up so we could go. He then goes on to casually mention that he no longer wants to be called Camden. He goes on to say that he's always liked the name Bobby Jenkins, so he's changing his name. If you know Camden, he is the sweetest, most easy going child on earth, with the most laid back dry, but hysterical sense of humor. He also has a low, slow way of saying the funniest things....so you can imagine our reaction to the comment "my new name is Bobby Jenkins." We fell out laughing of course, and we knew that indeed, in a moments notice, Camden had a new name. Immediately after our reaction to Bobby Jenkins, Jack said he also wanted a new name. Camden kindly, slowly, and dead-pan seriously, stated that his new name would be Jimmy. Jimmy Jenkins. And Jacked agreed. We are still not sure why he likes the name Bobby Jenkins, but we don't question it. It's just Cam. It's how he rolls.
And so the Jenkins brothers were born.
If you fully understood the relationship between Camden and Jack, this could not be more fitting. I have named them several things in the past. Beavis and Butthead. Curly and Moe. Dumb and Dumber (this is when they insist on doing really stupid things for the sake of entertainment) They are two peas in a pod. They finish each others sentences. The live in a world together in which no one else exists. When you call their names, they don't hear you. They can't hear you. They are in Jenkinsville. It's hard to burst the imaginary bubble they live in to get their attention, so we don't. We just let them be. It's nice. There have been times when Jack has been dropped off at my sister's house in the morning, and picked up late in the day~having never eaten a single bite of food. He forgets to eat sometimes because he's so busy, but most of the time he's just to overjoyed from his "chi" to want to eat. This is what we call the state of Jack's being when he is with his cousin. He starts to lose it when he hasn't had his "chi" in a few days. And it's just awful if he THINKS he is going to see Cam and plans change. I mean awful. On the floor. Screaming. Throwing large objects against the wall. He freaks. That's when Big Red comes to town, Jack's slightly unstable and largely tempermental alter-ego. I am convinced that Jimmy loves Bobby more than he loves me. I'm okay with that. It's the sweetest thing.
So now we refer to these two as The Jenkins. Our spastic dog Bella has joined the Jenkins brothers as Bella Jenkins. They only allow a selected few to be a Jenkins. Carsyn wasn't invited to be a Jenkins. Neither was Layton. My sister calls me now and says" Bobby needs some Jimmy time, can you take the Jenkins tomorrow?" The answer to that question is always yes. We love the Jenkins brothers.
